Jacob Gooch, aged 30, graduated from the State Police Training Academy in October and was assigned as a patrol trooper in northern Virginia.
His younger brother, Mark Gooch, is a 22-year-old first lieutenant serving in the US Air Force in the Phoneix area.
According to sheriff’s records that The Associated Press obtained, Mark Gooch, raised in a Wisconsin Mennonite family, enlisted in the military to leave behind what he claimed was a challenging, safe, and constrained life.
Per one of his brothers, who spoke to investigators, Mark Gooch allegedly harbors resentment toward the Mennonite community because of perceived mistreatment.
He murdered Sasha Krause, a Mennonite woman, due to his hatred for the Mennonite community. She was shot to death, and her body was dumped in a forest clearing hundreds of miles away, where it was left to freeze to death.
Gooch left Krause’s body in a remote, cellphone-unreachable location outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, at night, according to the authorities.
Records showed he tried to hide his activities, including having a friend hold a.22 caliber gun, having his car detailed, and deleting the location history on his phone.
