The Urusei Yatsura Remake Cast The Original Voice Actors In The Perfect Roles

Fumi Hirano and Toshio Furukawa played Lum and Ataru in the original “Urusei Yatsura” series, and they’re coming back for seconds (via Crunchyroll). Though over 40 years have passed since the series aired its first episode, the voice actors will be coming back to play two of the parents of the central characters. Hirano will be playing Lum’s mother, while Furukawa will be taking on the role of Ataru’s father. Meanwhile, Riki Koyama will be playing Lum’s dad and Ataru’s mom will be portrayed by Keiko Toda.

The news will no doubt be welcomed by fans of the original “Urusei Yatsura” series, as it seems to indicate a passing of the torch between the original actors and their more modern counterparts. Furthermore, it allows legacy actors Hirano and Furukawa to be a part of the new series without overshadowing newcomers Sumire Uesaka and Hiroshi Kamiya. The series will begin airing in Japan on October 13th, but North American fans will be able to stream the new series on HiDive.
