The police presence at Lincoln Middle School earlier that day was connected to the passing of a college student, Viterbo University reported on Wednesday in the late afternoon.
President of Viterbo Richard Trietley informed employees and students of Javon Kunkel’s suicide in an email. Kunkel was a track team member and a student in the Master of Arts in Servant Leadership program.
The letter claimed that Kunkel’s family would like the neighborhood to be aware of this information and “encourage anyone who may be struggling to seek support.”
No additional information about the incident has been given regarding the parties involved and the specifics of what happened.
The 600 blocks of 9th Street South scene were reported to Lincoln staff at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, although it did not occur at the school. As emergency personnel arrived, they assisted the students inside the school.
“This incident did not threaten students, but we are aware that students may find it challenging to absorb police encounters close to their place of study. We are contacting any students or staff who may have seen this to provide care and support. If students require more counseling assistance, it will be offered at Lincoln Middle now and in the future.
Kunkel was a graduate student in the program for servant leadership. The Rochester, Minnesota native participated in track.

On Wednesday afternoon, Viterbo held a prayer service in San Damiano Chapel in Kunkel’s honor and disseminated information about campus ministry and counseling services.
As everyone learns of Javon Kunkel’s tragic death, they are saddened and devastated because they are already missing and remembering him. The family will reveal the details of the obituary.
