Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt is opening a new scoop shop Thursday, May 6 in Newport Beach. That makes four locations in Orange County of the national chain with stores in 10 states, that offers 48 flavors daily—chosen from a list of more than 170 that rotate seasonally.
“The ownership group in Newport Beach exceeded our expectations every day,” said James Brown, Handel’s CEO. “They represent the finest in people and we have no doubt they will do the same regarding our brand. Orange County will be thrilled in our decision to open in Newport.”

The new store will be on Oceanfront across from the beach and pier. There are also locations in Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest and Rancho Santa Margarita, another two are coming soon to Huntington Beach and San Clemente. The brand, founded in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio by Alice Handel, was ranked No. 1 on National Geographic’s 2015 “The 10 Best of Everything,” an international list.
