Felicity Huffman Sentenced To Prison For College Admissions Fraud
Felicity Huffman has recently addressed her involvement in the College Admissions Scandal, aiming to evoke compassion and shed light on the charity where she performed her community service and currently serves on the board. However, her statements raise questions about whether she has truly learned from the experience.
Motivated by a desire to be a supportive mother, Huffman admitted to engaging in the scandal, believing it was the only option to secure a future for her daughter, who she refers to as her “repo baby.” She now holds a position on the board of a charity dedicated to assisting former female inmates, the same organization where she fulfilled her community service. In an interview with KABC’s Marc Brown, the former Desperate Housewives star expressed,
“At the time, it felt like I would be a bad mother if I didn’t do it. I know hindsight is 20/20.”
The College Admissions Scandal implicated over 40 individuals, including Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli. They were accused of making substantial payments to ensure their children’s admission to colleges. Huffman, sentenced to 250 hours of community service, is now using her experience to bring attention to A New Way of Life, a Los Angeles-based organization supporting women with past incarceration.
Regarding her involvement with the nonprofit, Huffman stated,
“I want to use my experience, and what I’ve gone through and the pain to bring something good.”
She currently serves on the board of directors for A New Way of Life, having received recognition for her efforts. Additionally, she was released from her 14-day sentence one day early. Despite her intentions, concerns persist about the lessons learned from the scandal.
