Ar’Miah Gilchrist was born with optic nerve hypoplasia, causing her to be blind. However, this amazing 11-year-old is not letting what others see as a handicap keep her down. Ar’Miah has morphed into a viral social media star, showing the world that nothing is going to stop her from living her best life!
In a recent interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Ar’Miah and her family share their inspiring journey. During the interview, the preteen, who is full of self-confidence, gives credit to God for all that she is.
Hudson said to Ar’Miah, “So tell me, Ar’Miah, what gives you your confidence?
Ar’Miah responded, “What gives me my confidence is by talking to God, reading my Bible, and saying my prayers.” Then she excitedly gave a shout-out to her parents saying, “And, I cannot forget about mommy and daddy! They make me happy every day. I am so happy that God blessed me with another day to wake up.”
Before continuing the interview, Hudson called Ar’Miah “a light and inspiration.”
With the desire to have people “see beyond her glasses and cane,” Ar’Miah’s mother, Mariah encouraged her “pretty girl” to show the world her uniqueness through motivational videos that capture Ar’Miah’s indomitable spirit.
Ar’Miah films videos showing others just how happily she navigates lives despite her inability to see. She is seen doing things that any 11-year-old would do such as cleaning, riding her hover board, cooking, writing, reading, spending time with her brothers, and playing video games.
Ar’Miah’s videos have garnered over 15 million views and counting worldwide.
This adorable young girl said in her interview that one of her main goals is to, “… help people because you never know what people are going through. And I want them to know that they can do everything and anything that they can put their mind to.”
And we have NO doubt that she is doing just that and will keep doing so for many years to come!
As a special treat for Ar’Miah and her family, the EGOT-winner surprised she and her entire family on a four-night Disney Cruise Line vacation aboard the Disney Wish. Additionally, Ar’Miah and her family will also have the opportunity to visit Disney’s private island paradise in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay!
